Safety Engineering

D&A performs on-site evaluations of facilities, machinery, and equipment for industrial and commercial clients to assess compliance with applicable codes and standards, and to assist our clients in the identification and remediation of potentially hazardous conditions. On-site inspections of industrial, commercial, public, and private properties are also performed as part of our forensic engineering practice to document and preserve evidence from accident scenes.

D&A provides the following facilities-related safety engineering services:

• Building/facility access and egress analysis.
• Walking/working surface characterization and evaluation.
• Coefficient of friction - slip resistance testing of surfaces and footwear in dry and contaminated conditions.
• Stair and ramp evaluation.
• OSHA, ADA, NFPA, and building code compliance evaluation.
• Aisle, walkway, and floor and wall opening design and evaluation.
• Area lighting design and evaluation.
• Investigation and analysis of slips, trips, and falls.

D&A provides the following machinery- and product-related safety engineering services:

• Machine guarding evaluation and design - to determine or ensure the adequacy of guards, barriers, interlocks, and other safety devices.
• Machine noise evaluation - quantification of workplace noise levels, determination of hearing protection requirements.
• Evaluation and design of warning and information labels.
• Review and editing of training, installation, operation, maintenance, service, and owners' manuals.
• Product analysis and testing to determine compliance with ASTM, ANSI, and other applicable standards.
• Safety training of field service and maintenance personnel.
